I have studied geography, history and geology at the University of Bern since 1997. I have started my master thesis in 2002 with the title „Cherry Tree Phenology“ expected to be finished in November 2003. The interdisciplinary project in phenology, climatology and history aims at reconstructing a 280-year long series of flowering dates of the cherry tree in Switzerland. As one of the most prominent phenological events in spring, the cherry tree can be used as indicator for the beginning of the growing season. Hence, the long record provides the possibility to see changes in the beginning of the growing season over a long period.

In a time of a changing world and many global problems I decided to enrol for the studies of Geography at the University of Berne in 2003, after having finished high-school at the Gymnasium Linde in Biel and having attended the school of art for one year.In my opinion Geography is a field of study that gives students the possibility to see many of these mentioned changes from various perspectives.
To me that seems essential, as solutions should never be one-sided.However, I personally focus my interests more and more in direction of the physical part of Geography. Therefore it is a great opportunity to be a member of the group PHENOTOP and working as an assistant at the Geographical Institute (GIUB).
The more one sees, hears and learns the more one’s able to follow a way with eyes and mind wide open. I myself, as a person with great affection for nature - be it in my studies or my leisure time - I do think this is most important.
