TROTREP

TROTREP - Tropospheric Ozone and Precursors - Trend, Budgets and Policy - is a new EU project based on current research in the TOR-2 (Tropospheric Ozone Research) Sub-Project in EUROTRAC-2. TROTREP is funded under the Fifth Framework Programme: Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, Key Action 2: Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity. It's prime objective is to evaluate, validate and predict the effectiveness of past and future EU air quality legislation with respect to ozone and its precursors. A detailed summary of the scientific objectives can be found in TROTREP Homepage.

TROTREP is coordinated by Dr Paul S. Monks, School of Chemistry, University of Leicester; the collaborators are:

- the Climate and Background Ozone (CABO) Research Group at Berne University, Switzerland;

- the Swedish Environmental Research Institute Ltd (IVL), Göteborg, Sweden;

- the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), Apeldoorn, The Netherlands;

- the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (DNMI), Oslo, Norway;

- the Norsk institutt for luftforskning (NILU), Kjeller, Norway;

- Utrecht University, The Netherlands;

Two Progress Meetings were held in TROTREP, a kick-off meeting in Leicester (U.K.) in spring 2000 and the first Progress Meeting in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) in November 2000. The first Progress Report is due in early 2001.

One publication on the analysis of changing seasonal ozone cycles at Jungfraujoch has been accepted by the Journal of Geophysical Research (Schuepbach et al., 2000).
